My first proposal is to incorporate an Inter IIT Cultural Cell in the institution which would be headed by the captains of the different genres and would aim to promote the participation from the students of IIT Kharagpur in the Inter IIT Cultural Meet.
The Cell would mainly start functioning in the month of October after the students return from the Durga Puja holidays. Every student interested in any genre that falls under the social and cultural aspect is allowed to be a part of the cell. The captains would be responsible for the training of the students in their respective fields and would conduct various workshops dedicated to improve the skills of the students.
It is the responsibility of the Captains and the General Secretaries to take note of the promising students and urge them to be a part of the contingent for the Inter IIT Cultural Meet. This would be a fair chance for everyone to demonstrate their skills and to represent our Institute on the National level among all the IITs.
Post the Meet, the cell would work as a medium for like minded individuals to meet and organize any event that they wish to and feel would be popular among the student body and motivate more people to participate in the next Inter IIT Cultural Meet.
The General Secretaries Social and Cultural would have to submit a report at the end of the academic year which would highlight all the activities undertaken by the Cell and hoe it impacted the students of IIT Kharagpur.
The hierarchy of the Cultural Cell would be as follows:
The General Secretaries Social and Cultural would be the overall heads of the Cell and would look after the overall working of the cell.
The Advisors would be the Captain , Vice Captain and various captains of each cup from the previous Inter IIT Cultural Meet conducted and the previous General Secretaries Social and Cultural, Technology Students’ Gymkhana.
On consultation with many people namely Mr. Harsh Sharan, Mr. Aman Choudhary, Mr. Vaibhav Dusad, Mr. Ankit Singh, Mr. Lalit Khemlani and Mr. Apurv Singhal, the proposal is found to be feasible and would only work towards the betterment of the institution.
If elected as General Secretary Social ad Cultural, I would strive to take forward this endeavour of mine. There would be an online portal which would list out the various captains and would have a query option. Every person interested in an event can register on that portal which would make the captains aware of a probable participant.
My second proposal is to introduce an event named Cult Night which would exclusively be for the Postgraduates and the Research Scholars students. It would be conducted in 3 Halls of Residence namely Bhimrao Ambedkar Hall of Residence, Sister Nivedita Hall of Residence and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hall of Residence. The events that would be conducted are Dumb C, Open Mics, Antakshri and Solo Singing. These short events would help the students to be more involved in the social and cultural happenings of the institute and would act as a medium of recreation for them.
In the past few years, it has been observed that there is a decrease in participation of the postgraduate and research scholar students in the social and cultural sphere. To make them more enthusiastic towards it, some steps have to be taken.
The Sister Nivedita Hall of residence would act as a venue for the female students while the other two Halls of Residence would be for the male students.
The events to be conducted would be short and wouldn’t act as an extra load on the students.
The event would be conducted in the first week of September.
These sessions will be open to all, anyone who is interested to participate can come to perform as well as to enjoy. Each individual will be given 5 min to present their work.
Antakshri has been a favorite game for everyone in their childhood. This event would help bring back fond memories for the students and be very enjoyable.
I believe that the events would be a huge step in encouraging the postgraduate and the research scholar students to be involved in the social and cultural activities of the institute.
With consultation from the various members of MMM Hall of Residence and Sister Nivedita Hall of Residence, I found that it is quite feasible to conduct the event and would expect a huge turnout.
I propose to take the Social Events of Spring Fest 2019 to a National Level during the Nationwide Prelims (Hitch-Hike).
Spring Fest 2018 conducted its Nation Wide Prelims named Hitch-Hike took place in various cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata ,Bangalore,Bhopal and Hyderabad in which the flagship events of Spring Fest were conducted namely Wildfire,Shuffle,Shake a Leg,Nukkad and SF Idol.
The Social Events would be conducted in association with different NGOs which would highlight the work done by them as well increase social awareness among the masses.
Spring Fest would arrange for volunteers who would work along with the NGOs for the betterment of the people. This Cell shall contact NGOs in the areas where Nation Wide Prelims will be conducted and a future prospect of it would be to improve the state of orphanages in these cities.
It would be beneficial to Spring Fest in the following ways:
Implementation procedure:
NGO Associations of Spring Fest in Previous Years
This signifies the collaboration of NGOs with Spring Fest in the past through National Wide Prelims which were held in various cities. It would be a great opportunity and a moment of great prestige if Spring Fest associated with he NGOs again and create awareness among the masses.
My fourth proposal tries including an event of Comic-Strip Making Competition in the Open IIT Competition which would focus on making a short Comic Strip after a problem statement has been released a month before.
The Open IIT competitions tries to bring out the talents of the students and form an integral part of the academic calendar. Most of the students in the campus would either be a Marvel or a DC fan. On that note, if the students are allowed to participate in such a competition, it would be mightily popular among the students.
The problem statement will be released 1 month before the event and the participants will have to submit a comic strip of at least 4 pages having at least 15 pictures at the time of event.
The participants can take an inspiration from a comic of their choice but the content should not be copied.
The Judging criteria would depend on:
